The gender gap is still an issue that is debated today between men and women. Stereotypical views of men and women still exist around the world. Even in this picture above, men are portrayed with the color blue, while women with the color pink. There are many other characteristics that people tend to associate with a certain gender, such as strong for men, and emotional for women. Even though bopth genders hold these characteristics, people still continue to hold these views.
What do you think about the gender gap? Is it still a big issue? How can these stereotypes be gotten rid of?
I think that there is a strong gender gap. An example of this is how women are thought to be more delicate than men, and how it’s more normal for women to show their emotions, while men are stereotypically seen as not showing as much emotion. I feel that while there would not be a gender gap in the perfect world, it would be nearly impossible to get rid of it in modern society. We should perhaps just accept the differences between men and women.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion I dont think that the gender stereotype can ever be eliminated since it has been around for so long. I also wonder if there is supposed to be a gender gap. I wonder if God made us have different characteristics based on our gender. I dont think that the gender gap is that much of a big issue because it isnt like we are picking on others for being a girl or a boy. Boys are born physically built to have a stronger body and other characteristics and that has nothing to do with a stereotype. Girls are genetically made with more emotional hormones and that has nothing to do with a stereotype. The only issue that I have with the two genders are that one is better than the other. Both genders have their own problems and unique ways that they act and look like, not because of society influences but again because of how they were made genetically. I believe that if you put a newborn girl in a neutral colored room with both boy and girls toys and never told her what girls do or what boys do, that she most likely gravitate toward the girl toys by the time shes 3 or 4. I think that this will just be because of her girl hormones. This is just a hypothesis though, and I would like to know for sure if it is true by doing an experiment.
ReplyDeleteI just found an article about this. I was right about girls being genetically attracted to girls toys because of how they were biologically made in the womb and with hormones.
ReplyDelete"The gendered preference for dolls versus trucks seems to have an inborn element. Male and female fetuses develop in somewhat different hormone environments, and this influences their later toy preferences. The testes of male fetuses begin producing testosterone at about week eight of gestation, whereas female fetuses' ovaries do not. Consequently, male fetuses have higher levels of testosterone."

I persoanlly think that this topic has a stong gender gap about men and women in society most of the sterotype are due to the media in our society such as tv, magazines and the internet. Sterotypes will never die people will always judge anyone by their apperance no matter what. some people can be small minded and believe in sterotypes and some are open minded.
